Your Thoughts About..

In this blog I hope that we can explore several different facets of the CAD, PLM and PDM world. I hope to see comments on training, support, technical issues, what you like and dislike about your current engineering tools.

  1. Hi MCAD Designers,

My tools were pencil & paper 1962-1982, CGD CAD System on a souped up Apple lle 1983-1989, Claris CAD & VectorWorks on Macs & PC 1989-2000, SolidWorks on PC’s 2001-2009.

In mid-09 I picked up NX6 because it runs on Mac OSX without windoze! I am really looking forward to increased up time and better productivity. I still run SW on a PC because of customers that require it.

Bootcamp works but it turns OSX off so you are just on a windoze machine. What’s the advantage? Parallels allows small assemblies to run pretty well and you can use Mac programs at the same time. SolidWorks Corp. hates Macs, they told my VAR he can’t work with me on it.

My NX license is “floating” so I can run on Mac, PC or Linux. I really want to associate with NX users and trade models so I can get up to speed.

      Nolton-

Great to hear from you. I am hoping to gather up some more users running NX on Mac OS for you to converse with. Good luck with you Pitinator invention.

  2. Ryan,

That would be great to connect with Mac NX or any NX users to talk to and practice with. Another program I am learning to use is bonzai3d. I think it will give me a way to quickly conceptualize parts, products and machines. It has more file export options than sketchUp but is just as fast. Have you heard of it? Bonzai3d is new from the FormZ people and is dual platform.

Nope can’t say that I’ve heard of Bonzai3D. I stick mainly to my small world of Siemens products: NX, Teamcenter, SolidEdge. If you can call that a small world. The product depth is amazing deep at times and then again can be amazing simple to use at times.
